About our east menu
Cities in the eastern part of China include Shanghai ,Suzhou, Hangzhou and so on. People prefer to eat non-spicy food. For breakfast, people like to eat all kinds of pastries or dishes that are mainly made with sticky rice or flour. In Shanghai, there is a term called “Si Da Jin Gang” (Four King Kongs) for a traditional breakfast set, including Da Bing (Crispy Pancake), You Tiao (Deep-fried flour stick), Ci Fan (sticky rice burger), and soy milk. “King Kong” is named for the feeling of satiety after eating these rice-made foods. In Suzhou, people like to eat a very “luxurious” noodle soup with several kinds of stir-fried dishes on the side.
Our “east” Shàn tasting menu features these traditional dietary habits, including one-bite-sized Si Da Jin Gang, and a Suzhou noodle soup with several seasonal stir-fried sides. For Si Da Jin Gang, we want to finish it with a touch of organic farm-to-table vegetables. And traditionally, the sides of the Suzhou noodle soup are oil-braised lake eel, scallion braised pork chop and crab roe cream, but it may vary depending on what we have in season.
The tasting course is consisted of two starters, four main courses, one soup dish, and one dessert. Diners will have two xiao long baos and a taste of the congee to begin with. Then follows the Si Da Jin Gang as main courses, all kept within tasting size. The Suzhou Noodle Soup will be introduced in the soup section to wrap up the tasting course with warm broth. The dessert, plum cake, would offer the diners a refreshing taste and mark the end of the breakfast tasting section.
